Andre Bikey spoke at length to the press this week, and the official site has the best of his quotes as he discusses his form, the African Cup Of Nations, Newcastle and more.

My role in the team
I'm playing at the moment and I'm happy with that. But I'm more happy that the team is doing well than the fact that I'm playing. We've won some games lately, and that is the more important thing for everyone.

It wasn't so easy for me when I wasn't in the team, but I had to accept the decision made by the manager. We have a lot of players here at Reading, it's not easy to make the team. It's strange because sometimes you give everything to be in the team and you're not in there. And sometimes you don't think you'll be in the team but you are in there.

I want to be involved every week but I know that's not easy. Now is my chance, I want to stay in the team and I will work hard to give everything for Reading.

I think I've done well since coming into the team. But I've watched the DVDs of the last few games and I still think I can get better and bring more to the team than what I'm bringing at the moment. Some players need to have a high confidence and I am like that, I need people to trust me. I am getting the trust from the other players and from the manager. If they keep giving me that same trust I can do something better.

I know I'm still young but I have a lot of experience. I have played many games, for my national team and in many other countries.

The gaffer trusts his players here. People said that our manager doesn't make many changes, but I think he had confidence in some of the other players who weren't playing. He made changes and we have won three of our last five games. And if we win two or three of our last six games we will be safe for the next season.

The team
I don't know the reason why we have suddenly started to win games after losing eight. Before those games we had a cushion, but a run like that is difficult to recover from.

Our team is very strong mentally. After the eight games we lost, many people thought we were finished. Now everybody is not as concerned, the victory in Middlesbrough was a very important one for us. We are professionals and I know we have the players in this team to stay in the Premier League.

Scoring goals
Nobody talked about me scoring goals before Birmingham, but I often go up for corners, and every time I am up there I am trying to score. And against Birmingham I scored two goals. So people were talking about my goals and about my goal celebration. I've done those celebrations a lot and I used to do it when I was young. In my country lots of people can do it, so it's not strange.

Newcastle
It will be a difficult game for us because Newcastle play three strikers. All three of them have quality, Martins, Owen and Viduka. We must not concentrate on one of them, but all of them. Martins is a very good player, and Owen is very difficult to mark. They are professionals who have the quality to be important Premier League players. I respect them all.

We want to come back with a positive result, minimum one point. Every player has a good mentality to keep us up.

I have played many times with Geremi for Cameroon, and many times against him in the Cameroon training camp. But I've never played against him in an official game, so Saturday will be my first time. He is a very good player who has a big history. He's played for a lot of big teams. Many people respect him in England and in lots of other countries. I have a lot of respect for him, he has lots of qualities and he will be an important player.

When I was away in the African Nations Cup I was very concerned about the situation back here with Reading. It was when we were in the run of eight defeats. As players in the Cameroon squad we talked a lot about our teams back at home, all the players were trying to get information on their own teams. And people were saying to me that things looked bad for Reading. I spoke to Geremi about the difficult situation at Newcastle as well, but I was more worried about Reading than Newcastle. I was worried about it, I didn't want to think about us being in the Championship. Going down to the Championship is not a good thing for a footballer's career.

Reading is not a big team in the Premier League, but we have got some respect from everyone in football. I want to be in a team that wins respect and stays in this division.

Red card for Cameroon
Some people still talk about it. But in the team it wasn't spoken about, and at Reading it hasn't been. I saw the TV replays, but they didn't show what happened 10 seconds before. I'm not stupid, I wouldn't do that unless something happened. I was sent off, that was bad, and the suspension was bad. But it's better for people to ask what happened.

When a player gets an injury, the first person who can go to him is a medical assistant, not a stretcher carrier. But in the semi-final, it was a stretcher carrier who came straight on to try to take him off the pitch. And then he pushed the medical assistant and it was not a good thing to do. I know we played in Ghana, it was a very difficult game and the Ghanaian people wanted to win.
