The Royals take a point from a scrappy affair at Wigan this afternoon. Read all about the ups and downs at the bottom and every kick from the JJB below.

2:10pm - Leroy Lita has been named in the starting XI. Steve Coppell makes five changes to his starting eleven, with Nicky Shorey, Michael Duberry, Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt also coming in. Andre Bikey will play a central midfield role, with Doyle on the right wing.

2:30pm - A brass band is entertaining a very sparse crowd that is very slowly building. The two teams are both warming up on a bobbly looking pitch. I'm assured by my colleague who has been pitchside though that it is not too bad.

2:45pm - The brass band have finished now and the PA announcer is delivering the team line-ups to the crowd.

2:56pm - About 1,300 Royals fans prepare to welcome their side to the JJB Stadium pitch. 'Chelsea dagger' is playing, and Chelsea have won against Manchester United at the other end of the table this afternoon.

2:59pm - The two teams are out and shaking hands. This is going to be a big afternoon for Reading Football Club.

2 mins - Reading start on the front foot but Wigan break through Jason Koumas. Bikey can't get across to stop him reachign the back line and eventually the midfielder lashes high over the bar.

4 mins - Koumas again gets it on the left. He chips a good cross into the box. Marcus Bent is there to nod it across towards Heskey but Duberry intercepts with his head. Bent is flagged offside anyway.

6 mins - Hunt chests it in front of him and Lita takes it off him to sweep it wide to Doyle on the right. He crosses but it's behind everyone

7 mins - Wigan break. Duberry has to slide in to dispossess Heskey inside the Royals box and concede a corner. Koumas delivers and Bent rises above Harper to win the header. It bounces up off the ground and spoons over tow Royals men by the left post and onto the underside of the crossbar. Ingimarsson hacks it clear.

11 mins - Kitson wins a free kick after being pushed by Scharner. Shorey delivers and it's too far for everyone. Chris Kirkland completely spills it though and it skims out for a corner. Hunt crosses from the left but as it drops the referee blows for a foul.

15 mins - Kitson does well to keep hold of a long Hahnemann goal kick. He turns and chips the ball into the box and Lita flicks it on. It's dropping for Doyle, who winds up a left footed first time volley which he skies high into the stand. Could maybe have taken a touch.

18 mins - Bikey brings it forward and he slides it left to Hunt, who tries to square it. It takes a deflection into Kitson's path but he gets a shout from HArper and lets it run for the midfielder. He drives from the edge of the box but it's blocked. Hutn redelivers from the left but Doyle's first time right-footed far post volley is never going to trouble Kirkland. Again, maybe a headed option was a better one.

22 mins - Harper swings it over to Hunt on the left, and he brings it down brilliantly to muscle in ahead of Mario Melchiot. Melchiot stretches to prevent the Irishman from edging any further in. Melchiot looks like he might need to come off!

25 mins - Wigan substitution. Taylor replaces Melchiot.

25 mins - Harper surges into the box down the left and looks to pick a man out. Instead his cross is behind both Lita and Doyle and although Biikey wins a corner on the right side, it comes to nothing as Hunt can't get it past the first man.

28 mins - Bikey does brilliantly to win it just inside his own half and Brown lashes a little kick at him. He doesn't really connect but a free kick is given. Brown is not cautioned.

30 mins - Shorey is bizarrely shown the yellow card for taking a throw in against Hunt's back. That is a very very strange decision.

32 mins - Hunt is booked for a totally innocuous aerial challenge on Palacios. Hunt didn't get the ball but it wa a legitimate challenge. Another odd decision.

36 mins - I'm tired of keeping an eye on other results, but Birmingham have taken the lead against an understrength Liverpool.

39 mins - Koumas crosses but Shorey heads clear. It drops for Palacios 20 yards out but his first time volley skews wide.

44 mins - It's all a bit bitty. Shorey swings a free kick in but Scharner nods clear without too much difficulty.

HALF TIME - Reading have come into the game as the half went on, but Kirkland hasn't had a lot to do and Birmingham lead at home to Liverpool - meaning if results stay as they are, Reading will be in the bottom three with two games to play. A big second half effort is needed.

47 mins - Reading start slowly and passing it around sloppily at the back sees it fall to Brown. He touches it in front if him and strikes a good effort goalwards which Hahnemann has to athletically tip over. Heskey heads just over from the corner.

49 mins - Kitson wins a free kick on the left. Shorey takes it deep to the far post where Ingimarsson heads it, seemingly against a Wigan arm. Nothing is given though.

50 mins - News filters through that Bolton are winning at Tottenham. It's all going wrong elsewhere at the moment.

52 mins - Brown wins a free kick in the centre circle. Kevin Dillon fumes at the fourth official again - not a lot seems to be going Reading's way here this afternoon.

55 mins - Kitson is clipped by Taylor, who is booked. Rosenior hits it too long for everyone though and Kirkland collects. Spurs have levelled against Bolton. Birmingham are two up though.

57 mins - Lita skins Boyce to get to the byline and then edges along the byline towards goal. He cuts it across but no-one is there and the ball agonisingly bobbles across the line and behind for a goal kick. So close - a head in hands time.

60 mins - Bikey turns away from his man and finds Kitson. He tries to pass it back into Bikey's path but shoulder to shoulder the Cameroonian can't capitalise and the ball rolls behind for a goal kick.

62 mins - Kitson tries to win a flick on from Hahneann's long kick. He doesn't but it is only headed out to Harper, who shoots low left-footed. Kirkland is behind it all the way though.

64 mins - Wigan substitution. Bent is replaced by Antoine Sibierski. Liverpool have got one back at Birmingham.

66 mins - Hunt is tripped out on the left and Shorey delivers the free kick to Ingimarsson at the far post. The Icelander nods it back across the face but a Wigan head meets it to clear.

68 mins - Brown winds up a shot from the edge of the area and it spirals off Harper towards the bottom right corner. Hahnemann scrambles across to touch it away and Lita brings it clear to win a free kick.

69 mins - Reading substitution. Little is on for Doyle on the right wing.

72 mins - Shorey swings a corner in from the left and it seems to drift past everyone. Duberry goes for it with Heskey and the ball flies towards goal from yards out but it's straight into Kirkland's palms. For a second it looked goal bound.

73 mins - Wigan substitution. Marlon King replaces Heskey up front.

75 mins - Kitson does well to find Little, who jinks in and out and gets on the end of a great one-two from Kitson. He slides it into the middle. The ball drops for Kitson, who swings a leg at it from 10 yards out but it's blocked.

78 mins - Wigan applying the pressure now. Two corners in succession. The second is scrambles away on the goalline almost by Kitson. Palacios fires it back in but slices it and somehow Reading survive.

80 mins - Lita wins a free kick 25 yards out in a central position. Bikey strikes it sweetly and it flies just over the crossbar.

83 misn - Wigan break in numbers after Bikey loses out in a 50:50 on half way. Reading scamper back and avert the danger though.

86 mins - Reading substitution. Lita is replaced by Long.

88 mins - Rosenior blocks a cross and Wigan have a corner on the left. It is swung in but headed behind at the far post by a Wigan man.

90 mins - Three minutes of injury time to be added. Little has it and he plays a ball through for Long. Long is flagged offside but it looked tight.

90(+2) mins - Rosenior crosses from the right and it drops to Harper. He is looking to shoot but is muscled out of it on the edge of the box and Wigan break through King on the right. He shoots but Hahnemann saves at his near post. The corner is headed clear and a follow-up shot brilliantly blocked.

FULL TIME - A point. Liverpool have come back against Birmingham, Spurs have done the same at home to Bolton - so unless there's a late goal. It's as you were at the bottom - although Fulham have come back from two down to lead at Manchester City. Have they thrown their name back into the hat?
