Manager's press conference
Steve, any injury news?
Glen is the only one, and he only has an outside chance to be honest, everyone else is OK.
Will Marek start?
I'm not going to say, obviously, but I know my team.
After watching the team in training this week, can you be confident of scoring goals?
I have an inner belief that they are capable. Given our record you can't be confident, but we have a determination. The situation is set, it's now in black and wihte. There's no compromise. There's a chance of survival so we have to play well and give our utmost. There are no half measures, we must go for it.
How about the comments from Paul Jewell relating to Kevin Dillon and so on?
I would say there's a little misunderstanding there. It was not in reference direct to Derby, it's a case of the last game, no matter who you're playing. We give ourselves the best chance if we win.
Have you spoken to Paul Jewell, will he be using it on the dressing room wall?
Whatever Paul wants to think has been said is fine. It won't affect us one iota. We're playing them but it could be anybody, it's a coincidence of the fixtures. We've got no axe to grind, we're hardly in a position to say we should beat anybody.
Were you disappointed in Kevin for saying things
There's a game Sunday, 3pm. All this is of no interest.
Has it been easy to focus your minds after looking back on the Spurs game?
Why look back, it's all before us, we've got it all to do. We can look back and analyse on Monday. Now everybody is anxiously looking forward to the game, you want the time to just pass. Eight days can drag, the weather has been a bonus though and it just proves what a joy it is to be a professional footballer.
Did you have a job lifting them after last week?
No not afterwards, to an extent you have to feel the pain and they do that. Every manager at the bottom will agree, the focus has been preparing and getting ready.
Is this position what you expected?
I have trust and belief in our own team. I think it's important we relish this opportunity, especially given the way this season has gone. We had eight straight defeats, now six without scoring so we have to be thankful for this chance.
What happens if you go down?
I don't think about it. On Monday there will be a flurry of activity at lots of clubs. Not just us. You look at it on Monday, you don't prepare any other way.
You said last week about spending, do you regret not doing more with transfers?
It's pointless thinking about it now, it's not relevant. On Monday morning we'll assess it, we always have a board meeting after the season, good bad or indifferent. We look at how we can improve, that's the mentality.
How have you been personally in the last month?
You want to ply your trade at the top, and challenges come with the territory. It's not physical harm coming to you, you get on with it.
Will you follow other scores?
They will filter through. What's the point, all we can do is try to win the game. If we win we have a chance, if we draw we have less chance. If we lose we've got no chance. It's simple, it's for us to do. I trust the integrity of the league, I know Derby, Blackburn and Portsmouth will be flat out. We've no qualms, it's down to us.
Will you stay in charge, come what may?
Who can say. We've got a game on Sunday and we go from there. That's not me making an out, it will come to a whole conclusion on Monday. This has nothing to do with my personal situation, Reading Football Club are trying to win a game, I'm not dodging the question.
Stay tuned to readingfc.co.uk on both Saturday and Sunday for much more from the boss ahead of this weekend's vital final match at Pride Park.
