Marcus, such a disappointment.
It's unbelievable. To end up going down on goal difference is ridiculous. We didn't go down today, we went down when we didn't get any points off Bolton and Fulham. We always said that you have to beat the teams around you and we didn't do that this year. And now we're faced with hopefully just one season in the Championship.

How does it feel - how big of a bitter pill is to go down?
We're not Premiership players anymore, and that's the one thing we have to get into our heads as quickly as possible because you see what happens when teams go down. It's devastating. Once you've tasted it, to have to go back to the Championship - nobody wants to have to do that. You see teams that go down and you think they should go straight back up with the strength they have. But sometimes it doesn't happen because they're not prepared mentally for it. We have got to get our minds right because we know we'll have a difficult season ahead of us.

Would you like to see the squad kept together or do you expect a lot of changes?
There will be changes, I think that's inevitable. I don't know what's going to happen and who is going to leave. But I'm going to be here, I'm sure of that. I have another year on my contract and I want to get this team back in the Premier League, I'll do whatever it takes.

Were you aware of the situation at Portsmouth?
Yes. We found out at half-time that it was still 0-0. But you could tell by the crowd's reaction, the coaches didn't need to tell us anything. I saw it go dead silent, then heard Derby's fans and saw our fans weren't moving anymore. And then I thought 'oh sh*t, here we go'. That's just the way it is.

What's been the biggest difference between this season and last when you did so well?
Complacency maybe, familiarity a little bit where teams have worked us out. Last season we had the same back four almost all season, and this season I don't know how many different times we've had to change it. That's a huge factor, you don't have that solid core and base of the team.

And the goals against column?
It's so frustrating, and I take a lot of that on my shoulders. We just have to figure out how we're going to go from here.

What was said in the dressing room after the game, were you just sat in silence?
It was just devastating. You start to think about it being just one point and flash back to all the different games where we've screwed up. We had an eight game losing run and lost the Fulham game at home. There were so many times when we couldn't do what we needed to do. And now we're going to pay the ultimate price, which is going to be devastating financially for the club and for us as players.

What about you now?
I'm back to the States on Tuesday and have my hand surgery on Wednesday to remove the pins. And now I'll probably put the screws on eBay.
