Royals defender Alex Pearce was left with mixed emotions after his Scotland under 21s debut this week.

Pearce started and played 86 minutes as the u21s took on Norway in Kilmarnock, but they were beaten 4-1.

He told readingfc.co.uk, "Obviously making my first appearance for the under 21s was a good thing, but to be honest the way it ended up, it was a bad thing.

"We didn't play well, it was a disappointing game against a settled Norway team, we didn't turn up on the night.

"The only positive I can take was that it was my first appearance, there's not much else. Personally I thought I did OK but when you lose 4-1 as a defender you really cannot be happy at all.

"To lose 4-1 is so disappointing, I wanted to finish the season on a high. It didn't work out that way though."

Alex is still eligible to play for England, and does not have to make a decision on his future for some time yet.
