Vote for Madejski Stadium's best goal
Which is your favourite goal ever scored at Madejski Stadium?
Our home is ten years old later this year, and as part of a new book celebrating the first decade of our stadium, we're asking fans to vote for their favourite Reading goal at the ground.
So which goal will get your vote? The selection criteria is up to you - whether you want to choose the most spectacular, the best team goal, the most important or simply one that sticks in your mind.
You can vote by emailing editor@readingfc.co.uk, and the best will be featured in the book due to be published this summer.
To jog your memory and get you thinking, here are ten of the best - but these are just a few of the likely contenders (in date order).
1. 22nd September 1999: Keith Scott v Bradford. Burly striker Keith Scott was hardly noted for his fancy footwork, but in this League Cup tie he produced something special by jinking inside three defenders from the left wing and curling a precisely placed shot into the far corner.
2. 12th September 2000: Lee Hodges v Oldham. Midfielder Lee Hodges possessed a sweet left foot and demonstrated his ability in this 5-0 rout against Oldham, smashing a perfectly struck volley from outside the area past bewildered visiting keeper David Miskelly.
3. 1st January 2001: Darren Caskey v Northampton. Classy midfielder Darren Caskey was renowned for his set-piece prowess, and this long-distance effort was possibly the pick of the bunch - and it also rescued an injury-time point on New Year's Day 2001.
4. 14th April 2001: Sammy Igoe v Bury. It's very unlikely that anybody has ever hit a more sweetly struck shot than diminutive midfielder Sammy Igoe during this 4-1 drubbing of Bury. Visiting keeper Paddy Kenny had no chance as the rising 30-yard drive whistled past him.
5. 16th May 2001: Nicky Forster v Wigan. Not the most spectacular goal scored at Madejski Stadium, but certainly one of the most memorable as substitute Nicky Forster followed up Jamie Cureton's saved penalty to slot home a 90th minute play-off semi-final winner.
6. 27th August 2003: Jamie Cureton v Burnley. The Royals were enjoying life in Division One when the previous season's promotion winning goalscorer Jamie Cureton put the seal on a 3-0 win with a prime example of his 'dipper' repertoire - a long-range volley that dipped under the crossbar in the last few yards.
7. 19th October 2003: Nicky Forster v Ipswich. Nicky Forster was in the form of his life in autumn 2003, and his brilliant hat-trick sent Ipswich packing. The pick of the bunch was the second, when he controlled with his chest 30 yards out before spinning to hit a swerving volley into the far corner.
8. 13th September 2005: Leroy Lita v Crystal Palace. This game against the Eagles would certainly feature highly in any 'best game' vote, and Leroy Lita produced a moment of magic to level at 2-2 with an unforgettable and spectacular overhead volley.
9. 17th January 2005: Leroy Lita v West Brom. Another contender from Lita, who won this FA Cup tie against the Baggies with a brilliant hat-trick. The best was the second, when he finished off a slick move by thumping a ferocious long-range effort past Chris Kirkland.
10. 30th April 2006: Graeme Murty v QPR. Ok, so it was only a penalty. But what a moment! Needing a win on the season's final day to set the Football League's all-time points record, up stepped captain Murts to smash home and end his own personal drought.
These ten are only suggestions and there are plenty more very worthy contenders that are sure to receive many votes - and the choice is yours!
