Steve Coppell is backing Portugal to win this summer's Euro 2008 tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

With Cristiano Ronaldo in such sparkling form, Steve believes the winger can almost single-handedly carry the Portuguese nation to glory.

Steve told readingfc.co.uk, "Ronaldo is the best player in the world right now, certainly in my opinion at least.

"I feel the best team often has the best player because he brings everyone up with him.

"So I've got a feeling for Portgual, although I must admit I've not studied it in depth, I've not looked at the squads, the players or the friendlies."

Ronaldo will come up against Marek Matejovsky in the group stage, with Portugal paired up with the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Portugal.
