Marek Matejovsky was an unused sub as the Czech Republic won the first game of Euro 2008 with a 1-0 win over hosts Switzerland.

Karel Bruckner did not find space for Marek in his starting XI, and they won thanks to Vaclav Sverkos' second half goal.

In truth the result was harsh on the Swiss, who had some good chances and also hit the crossbar.

The Czechs now face Portugal on Wednesday in their second group match.
