Steve Coppell believes that past achievements will mean nothing when the 2008/9 Championship campaign gets underway.

Our last season at this level saw the Royals totally dominate the division to win the title with a record-breaking points tally.

But speaking to readingfc.co.uk, Coppell warned, "The fact we won promotion two years ago won't help us because it's a new challenge, everything is different.

"There might be some of the same players here, but it's one competitive league.

"A lot of teams will be gambling - there are new owners intent on getting into the Premier League.

"So it's a totally different situation from last team and what happened in the past will not help or hinder us now.

"There's a fresh plan with drive and determination for the season."
