Motty cuts the ribbon on new media centre
Legendary commentator John Motson was full of praise for the Royals when he officially opened Madejski Stadium's new media facilities on Tuesday afternoon.
After cutting the ribbon, John commented, "Firstly, I've got to dispel the myth that I've retired!
"Since last weekend lots of people have been congratulating me on my retirement, but actually it was just my last major championships and I will still be commentating on Match of the Day next season.
"Sadly Reading won't be there of course, but the two years in the Premier League have been very refreshing and I've had excellent co-operation from everyone at the Club.
"Mind you, I should have done from Steve Coppell, because I remember on his first England tour I tried to run with him on Copacabana beach! So we go back a long way and I wish him every success in trying to get back into the Premiership.
"I'd also like to thank John Madejski for his hospitality over the last two seasons. I did get carried away on one occasion though - I was having lunch in the boardroom when I realised that the game was about to kick off and I was still talking to the Vicar of Dibley!"
The new media centre that Motty officially opened alongside Chairman John Madejski incorporates a press conference room, separate radio interview rooms and a working area.
It occupies the fourth floor of a new £2m development that also contains offices for the Club's staff.
Manager Steve Coppell was also in attendance, along with around 40 members of the national and local media.
