'Marek will be the main man'
Coach Kevin Dillon believes that Marek Matejovsky will be outstanding in the Coca-Cola Championship this season.
The Czech international signed from Mlada Boleslav in January, and has already made a very good impression with some top drawer performances and our best goal of the season away to Liverpool.
He will take the number 7 shirt for Reading in the new campaign, and Dillon has fingers crossed he will recover from an ankle injury in time to start our Championship season at Nottingham Forest on 10th August.
Dillon said, "Marek will be the main player for us next season, I really think that.
"He is quality. We didn't see the best of that last year, we saw glimpses. He can unlock defences, he's got the pass.
"To be honest, when he got injured in the Euros, I was happy! I knew it wasn't a serious injury, and I just thought if he continued in the tournament there would be a lot of interest in him.
"Brian McDermott first spotted him, then Nick and Steve both saw him. He was a bit frustrated last year, he never got a long run in the team. He got in but he'd get taken off now and then and he got sent off as well.
"He can see things that others can't. The fans know that, I think the press boys know that and scouts would have then be watching him in the Euros.
"The thing is he wants to play for us. He's a loyal type, from a good family, he's got a beautiful wife and new child."
There is a chance that Marek could travel with the team to Sweden next Wednesday when they fly out for a week-long pre-season training camp.
We play three games in Scandinavia, then complete our pre-season preparations with a home friendly against Aston Villa on Saturday 2nd August.
