Big win for our girls
Our women's team welcomed Chesham United Ladies to their first home of game of the season on Sunday, and came away with an emphatic 5-2 win.
This was an action-packed game right from the kick-off, when only 2 minutes into the game Chesham were awarded a penalty/
This decision seemed harsh, but lady luck smiled on Reading as the penalty was hit wide of the right post.
Laura Woodley hit home two superb goals in the 10th and 20th minutes to send Reading into an impressive lead.
Charlotte Poole was in fine form in the Reading goal, giving a good platform for us to go further ahead.
Our third goal came as a result of good build-up play down the left and a great piece of individual play from Lauren May, taking on the Chesham defence along the 18 yard line to strike into the top right hand corner of the goal. Two minutes later and it was a carbon copy goal again from May.
The first half ended with a late goal from Chesham, but it had still been a great opening period.
The flow of the second half was similar to the first, with Reading starting strong and creating a number of chances that were narrowly missed or well defended.
55 minutes into the game and Jo Chubb joined the action for Jenny Webb, Jo slotted into the right midfield allowing Rachel Fell to take up Webb's position on the right wing.
It wasn't long before the combination play between these two paid dividends, with Chubb's first goal for Reading coming in the 67th minute. This was an absolute scorcher from a central position and 25 yards out.
Leila Dickinson joined the Reading defensive line-up for the final 12 minutes of the game, replacing Kayleigh Hines, who had given an outstanding performance all afternoon.
Reading's two England u17 internationals Ricketts and Hines had put on a performance that was worthy of their next call up against Norway later this month.
However, the final goal of the game went to Chesham, with a similar break and goal to the one they scored in the first half.
Reading were caught out of shape at the back as Chesham broke down a Reading attack and finished with a neatly slotted goal.
Reserves also score five
Our reserve team also had a big win with a 5-3 victory over Corinthian Casuals.
After early pressure it was Reading who took advantage of poor defending and took the lead with a quick-fire double. As the Corinthians defence decided whether to clear the ball Kayleigh Mitchell stole in and went through on goal finishing low past the keeper.
Only three minutes later Welch read a poor back pass and from 18 yards classily lobbed the stranded goalie.
On 34 mins RFC deservedly grabbed a third. Welch again the scorer into the top corner.
After switching to 4-3-3 at half time, we seemed a little unsettled and concede two quick goals.
But Mitchell soon got us back on track with a great goal after a mazy run from some distance.
Casuals notched again, only for E.Pearmine to slot home a pen after Mitchell was fouled.
