Caswell hat-trick in 5-0 win
Reading 5-0 QPR
A confident Royals outfit played their first home fixture at the new venue - Didcot Town's Loop Meadow - on Sunday afternoon, and the change of location didn't see the side's form falter as the women continued their stunning South West Combination League season with an emphatic 5-0 win over QPR.
The Royals had edged three points in a 3-2 thriller with Rangers earlier in the season, but the Londoners had dumped our ladies out of the FA Cup to inflict Reading's only defeat of the season so far. It took just a minute to reap some revenge!
Jenny Webb's darting run ended with a deft backheel to tee up Tash Caswell, and Caswell unleashed a spectacular 25-yard drive that nestled in the top corner to give Reading an early lead. Ten minutes later the advantage was doubled. Rachel Fell frightened the QPR left back with her pace and jinked past before delicately dinking a finish over the onrushing keeper and inside the far post for a superb second.
Jo Chubb and Fell combined well to set Caswell up, as the Royals went in search of more, but this time the keeper blocked it and the visitors mustered a bit of composure to mount a couple of attacks themselves; Amy Carr saving from a well-worked corner to keep the two-goal cushion.
Before the break it was 3-0 and game over, Caswell glancing Emma Jayne Pearmine's set piece home for her brace.
Early in the second half a luckless Fell found the woodwork but the Royals were rampant and hungry for more. Top scorer Laura Woodley obliged with a close range fourth in the 77th minute and as time wound down Caswell added another to complete an excellent hat-trick with a bullet header converted from a tasty Pearmine corner.
Hat-trick hero Caswell said, "It was a fantastic day for me, but more importantly a fantastic day for the team.
"We are playing really well at the moment, and we are delighted with how we've done so far this season. But it's a marathon, not a sprint, and we have to keep this going with more hard work and dedication."
Director Of Women's Football Lee Herron added, "It was another top performance from this outstanding team.
"They never fail to impress with their dedication and quality. We have competed very strongly this season. Long may it continue."
Slough Ladies 2-1 Reading reserves [League Cup]
The reserves went out in heartbreaking fashion as they were beaten only five minutes before the game was due to enter the lottery of penalties. They took unbeaten Premier Division side Slough all the way in this hard-fought cup tie.
Reading took the lead only 15 minutes into the game with a 35-yarder from Lou Smith. Welch almost made it 2-0 but her effort was cleared off the line.
Slough got back on level terms on 36, squeezing home after a corner bounced around in the area.
Reading then had some cracking chances, one sailing over the bar and another from Mitchell going wide of an empty goal.
After the restart, Mitchell shot wide from Fiona Trimmer's cross, and then keeper Charlotte Poole made a very good save.
The second half was a cagey affair and extra time loomed large.
In the additional 30, Welch had a decent chance, and sadly Trimmer suffered a serious injury.
With time almost up, Slough won it with a great strike; breaking our girls' hearts.
Boss Michael Butcher said, "It was disappointing to lose in that fashion but we more than held our own against a team unbeaten in the league above.
"What is more upsetting is that Fiona Trimmer has again broken her ankle and looks to have another long injury lay-off after doing well since breaking it in the early stages of the season. We all wish her a speedy recovery."
