Pearmine keeps title bid on track
Forest Green 0-4 Reading
Reading travelled to Forest Green keen to make amends for the cup defeat at Team Weston the previous week.
They started brightly and took the lead after eight minutes when Emma-Jayne Pearmine's free kick crashed in off the bar from 30 yards out.
She nearly added a second three minutes later when a defender deflected another free kick goalwards, forcing the Forest Green keeper to scramble across her goal to make a save.
Reading were completely dominant, with Jenny Webb forcing the keeper into another save, Rachel Fell hitting the crossbar and Laura Woodley keeping the keeper busy as well.
A second goal was only a matter of time away, and Pearmine doubled her tally when she scored directly from a corner after 22 minutes. She was denied her hat trick though when another corner was cleared off the line shortly afterwards.
Reading continued to dominate and Forest Green's first and only attempt of the match came in injury time in the first half, giving keeper Amy Carr an otherwise quiet afternoon.
The second half started scrappily before Jo Chubb again showed tremendous energy to close down a Forest Green defender, forcing her into an error. The back pass was intercepted by Laura Woodley, who calmly took it past the last women and side footed into the corner of the net for Reading's third after 58 minutes.
With Reading three up, they introduced substitutes Tracy Corkett, Laura Derlacki and Becky Todd for Webb, May and Ricketts to add some fresh legs against the tiring Forest Green side.
Reading's fourth came courtesy of a Chubb drive after 85 minutes.
This was a much-improved performance by the young Reading side, who showed great energy in midfield with Chubb, Fell and Kayleigh Hines dominating the match.
This Sunday, Reading welcome closest challengers Plymouth Argyle to Didcot Town for a real top of the table clash.
