Ladies close in on the title
Luton 0-3 Reading
Another big step towards promotion for the women came with another comfortable win at Luton on Sunday. The Hatters had taken a point at Reading in a thrilling 3-3 between the teams earlier in the season, but a youthful Reading side were too good this time.
Rachel Fell tested the Town keeper early on and Tash Caswell almost broke the deadlock midway through the first half. Her drive was pushed wide, but the chances kept coming; Fell lashed wide, Josette Pearmine nodded over from a corner and top scorer Laura Woodley was denied by a busy Luton stopper.
And before the break, Reading finally took the lead - Emma-Jayne Pearmine fed Woodley, who in turn found Caswell and a stunning long range drive crashed in off the underside of Luton's crossbar.
Consistent controlled, disciplined, passing football saw the Royals press for a second and Fell almost made it 2-0.
Again the keeper denied a Reading effort but she couldn't do anything about 58th minute move that did double the advantage - Sahara Osborne-Ricketts won the ball in midfield, Caswell surged forward, and Fell finished coolly.
Luton chased a route back into the game, but Reading almost took advantage of the extra space at the back when Chambers saw her towering header cleared off the line.
Substitute Tracey Corkett did add a third late on by touching home Pearmine's cross for her first of the season. A dominant attacking performance once more, but the three goals should however not overshadow Reading's fifth consecutive clean sheet in the league and another immaculate defensive display.
